A successful Media Relations Account Manager will excel at the following:

Strategy
  • Advise clients on their overall business and communications strategies
  • Support a First Cut Session with a client, including taking thorough notes and contributing to the conversation
  • Develop and deliver a strategy document to a client
  • Evaluate, prioritize and predict clients’ needs and have a clear understanding of what PR successes mean to them
  • Stay on top of the latest trends and techniques that not only affect the PR industry but also our clients’ businesses
Project Management                                                                                            
  • Have a clear understanding of client budgets and deadlines, and meet both regularly
  • Deliver thorough, detailed, and relevant project management updates with clients and in staff meetings
  • Manage other team members to ensure that clients’ needs are being satisfied
  • Manage clients to ensure they meet media and project deadlines; proactively ask questions to ensure they have what they need
Material Development
  • Develop press releases, media alerts, bylined articles, blogs, and status updates
  • Contribute to the development of materials generated by other team members through proofreading for content, grammar, spelling, and structure
Research                                                                                                                  
  • Research clients’ competitors, industries, trends, influencers, and media targets every day to identify opportunities
  • Research opportunities to add value to clients' scope of work (i.e. relevant speaking engagements, award submissions)
  • Utilize all available resources to find data or solve problems/issues 
Media Relations                                                                                                     
  • Develop strong and meaningful media relationships for the benefit of clients
  • Craft pitches that generate media coverage for clients
  • Communicate with reporters, editors, and producers through email, phone, and other methods
  • Prepare clients for interviews and advise them on how to leverage opportunities
  • Evaluate the impact of media placements through business opportunities, website analytics, impressions, internal business use, etc. 
Digital Marketing                                                                                                            
  • Integrate PR efforts with social media and email tactics at the strategy level in order to achieve clients' goals; understand and use social media tools (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn) when applicable
  • Support social media and email account managers on their campaigns for clients, including community development, community engagement, content development, ad development, and reporting and analytics
